1951 "S" Franklin Silver Half Dollar

The Franklin Silver Half Dollar honors one of the most famous American patriots, Benjamin Franklin. While these coins were minted between 1948 to 1963 and produced at several mints, the 1951 "S" Franklin Silver Half Dollar is the most valuable and collected due to a double die production error. This error caused the letters in "E Pluribus Unum" to look as if they are stamped twice.

As the coins are no longer in mint, your best bet for purchasing one of these unique collectable coins is from a private collector who has stored the coins or a reputable coin dealer.

Some other notable Franklin half dollars are the 1955 "Bugs Bunny", the 1956 Proof Type 1 and Type 2 Reverse, the 1961 Double Die Reverse, and the 1961 Proof Double Die Reverse.
