Britannia Coins

When looking for bullion coins to purchase, the Britannia coins would be a good option when adding to your collection or investment portfolio. The Britannia coins began to be minted by the British Royal Mint in 1987. The Silver Britannia began being minted ten years later in 1997.

The Gold Britannia contains 1 troy ounce of gold and are face valued at £100. In 2013 the gold coins began to be minted with a millesimal fineness of .9999 with previous mints having a millesimal fineness of .917. The Gold Britannia’s have also been minted in sizes of one-half, one-quarter, and one-tenth of a troy ounce. They have the face values of £50, £25, and £10 respectively.

The Silver Britannia contains 1 troy ounce of silver and are face valued at £2. In 2013 the silver coins began to be minted with a millesimal fineness of .999 with previous mints having a millesimal fineness of .958. The Silver Britannia’s have also been minted in sizes of one-half, one-quarter, and one-tenth of a troy ounce. They have the face values of £1, 50p, and 20p respectively.

The Britannia, in addition to being an asset to your collection, is also a very beautiful and attractive coin regardless if you see the proof or bullion version.  The coin has gone through two phases of designs and each design has been minted each year.

If you are interested in acquiring these coins for your collection or as an investment, the 2012 Britannia Gold coin, which marks the 25th Anniversary of the first Britannia Gold coin and the 2013 Britannia Gold coin, which is minted from .9999 fine gold, would both be a wonderful addition.
